Providing patients with the best possible care is the top priority at ZEM-Germany. However, in addition to treatment, research and teaching are also important. This is the only way to ensure that the best options are always available. Here we present some current research projects of Prof. Baumgart and his team.
Currently Prof. Baumgart is working on the 2nd version of the Pelvic Support Plate (PSP) for hip distalization. This innovation significantly improves the treatment of patients with high hip dislocations who also have a significant leg length discrepancy when unilateral. The latest plate design simplifies implantation and further improves range of motion and thus comfort during distalization. The Pelvic Support Plate is only compatible with the FITBONE intramedullary distraction nail.

The BioXpand III is the next generation of BioXpand and a breakthrough in growth prostheses. With the BioXpand III, implantation of a distraction intramedullary nail in the upper and lower leg is possible without changing the prosthesis using a minimally invasive surgical technique. This significantly reduces the risks of major surgery, especially infection. The BioXpand III is only compatible with FITBONE intramedullary distraction nails.
